Melissa A. Barbor, OD

Dr. Barbor graduated with honors from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1992.  During her training she completed an internship in ocular disease at Omni Eye Services in Atlanta, Georgia, a pediatric internship at The Eye Institute at The Pennsylvania College of Optometry and a contact lens internship with Dr. William Morrison, one of the pioneers in soft contact lens technology.

Dr. Barbor has been practicing in the DC metro area for the past 18 years.  She has extensive experience in managing and treating ocular disease, post-surgical care and contact lens fitting.  She has served as a clinical investigator for clinical trials ranging from new pharmaceutical formulations to intraocular lens implants. She is currently a trainer for research sites participating in trials for the treatment of Diabetic Macular Edema and Age-related Macular Degeneration. The National Board of Examiners in Optometry appointed her a clinical examiner in the year 2000 and she has served consistently over the past 11 years. She has conducted workshops at Georgetown University on contact lens fitting and evaluation.  She is a reviewer for the Council on Practitioner Education and a member of the international Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society.

She and her husband and daughter have lived in Chevy Chase, Maryland for the past 6 years.  They love going to the movies and riding bikes in Rock Creek Park. Every year they manage to fit in some skiing and some time at the beach.

Dr. Barbor welcomes you to her practice and urges you to contact her with any questions or concerns.
